Climate Change and the Commercial Seafood Industry
Climate change as an issue has been the focus of attention in the community, across all levels of government and industry.
The current policy debate on the issue is ongoing but what is becoming clearer is that governments will continue to fund industry to help prepare businesses for both the direct and indirect effects of climate change.
For example, the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry's FarmReady Industry Grant program has helped develop this website. The QSIA believes it is important for the seafood industry to work toward future-proofing itself against climate change impacts.
This website offers industry and the research community an opportunity to promote work related to adaptation and mitigation. Specific climate change projects have been listed that demonstrate industry's progress on the issue.
This site also provides industry with the capacity to promote its climate change credentials and provide examples of what can be achieved operationally at the business level.
This website is a tool for the seafood industry and has the potential to help us promote our work on the issue and identify to government that the seafood industry is serious about tackling the issue and has a plan to do so.
