Redmap - an interactive website for Australian recreational and commercial fisheries

Redmap is an interactive website that invites commercial and recreational fishers and divers to spot, log and map marine species that are uncommon in Tasmania, or along particular parts of the Tasmanian coast. Redmap provides a facility to record and collate important information held within the commercial fishery so that the fishers’ information can be formally added to ‘traditional’ scientific information.

Redmap is about to secure funding to build a national website and database. What they need now is for each state/region to provide staff time and funds to get Redmap up and running in each Australian region and, very importantly, ensure that Redmap is locally driven in each region. So, if you the fishers want your observations noted, and added to the pool of traditional scientific information, let your DPI/managers/fishing industry know so that Redmap has a stronger case to try and secure funding.
