Reducing seabed impact/greenhouse emissions of trawlers in Moreton Bay

Project Summary

This project aims to reduce the fuel required to catch prawns in Moreton Bay by 20% through implementation of Batwing otter board technology.

Project Objectives

To reduce the impacts of prawn trawling on the seabed organisms (benthos) of Moreton Bay through implementation, demonstration, and promotion to local prawn-trawler operators of benthic-friendly “Batwing” trawl boards.

Project Status

Ongoing. #3 CP2 Batwing boards for Moreton Bay trawler have been constructed and field trials have commenced.
